In 1 Samuel chapter 25, we read about a wealthy but ill-tempered man named Nabal who lived in Carmel. David and his men had protected Nabal's shepherds and flocks. When Nabal was shearing his sheep (a time of celebration and generosity), David sent messengers to ask for a customary provision of food for his men. However, Nabal responded with harsh insults and refused David's request.

Prayer:
Dear Lord, we see in this chapter the contrast between foolishness and wisdom, and the importance of treating others with respect. Help us to be generous and kind in our dealings with others, and to avoid the pride and harshness that characterized Nabal. Thank you for examples like Abigail, who showed wisdom and humility. May we learn from this story and always strive to honor you in our words and actions. Amen.
