After the great victory on Mount Carmel, Elijah expected the people to turn back to God. But instead, Queen Jezebel threatened to kill him. Elijah was afraid and ran into the wilderness. He felt alone and discouraged, even asking God to take his life. But God didn’t leave Elijah in his sadness. He sent an angel to give him food and water, and Elijah rested. Then God led him to Mount Horeb, where Elijah experienced a powerful wind, an earthquake, and a fire—but God wasn’t in those. Finally, Elijah heard a gentle whisper. That’s where God was. God reminded Elijah that he was not alone and gave him new purpose.
Dear God, thank You for being with us even when we feel afraid or alone. Help us to listen for Your voice, not just in big moments, but in the quiet too. Thank You for caring for us like You cared for Elijah. Remind us that we are never alone and that You always have a plan for us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
