Despite his youth and lack of armor, David was determined to fight Goliath. He told King Saul that the Lord who had delivered him from the lion and the bear would also deliver him from this Philistine. Trusting in God, David went out to face the giant with only his staff, a sling, and five smooth stones.

Discussion Questions:
  1. Why was King Saul hesitant to let David fight Goliath? What did Saul offer David?
  2. Why did David refuse to wear Saul's armor? What does this tell us about where David's trust lay?
  3. Describe the moment when David faced Goliath. What did Goliath think of David?
  4. How did David defeat Goliath? What weapons did he use, and what was the key to his victory?
  5. What does this story teach us about the importance of trusting in God's power rather than our own strength?
  6. How can we apply David's faith in God to the "giants" we face in our own lives? What "stones" might God provide for us?
  7. What was the result of David's victory over Goliath for the Israelite army? How did it change the situation?

Prayer:

Almighty God, thank you for the inspiring story of David and Goliath. Help us to remember that with you, even the most impossible challenges can be overcome. Strengthen our trust in your power and give us the courage to face our "giants" knowing that you are with us. Amen.
