Jesse, an old man from Bethlehem, sent his youngest son David to the Israelite camp to bring food to his older brothers who were serving in the army. When David arrived, he heard Goliath's usual taunts and saw how terrified the Israelite soldiers were. David, however, had a different reaction.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Why do you think David was sent to the camp? What was his initial role?
  2. How did David react to Goliath's challenge compared to the rest of the Israelites? What was the difference in his perspective?
  3. What did David say to the soldiers and King Saul when he heard Goliath's words? What motivated him to speak up?
  4. David had experience protecting his father's sheep from lions and bears. How did this past experience shape his confidence in facing Goliath?
  5. Have you ever felt that others were afraid of something that didn't scare you as much? What made your perspective different?
  6. What does David's reaction teach us about faith and how it can overcome fear?

Prayer:

Lord, thank you for David's example of courage and faith. Help us to see challenges not as reasons to be afraid, but as opportunities for you to work through us. Strengthen our faith so that we may stand firm even when others are fearful. Amen.
